MikroTik CRS328-24P-4S+RM and Noctua NF-A4x20 Fans

When I got my CRS328-24P-4S+RM I was a little anyoed about the noise by the original fans. I remembered reading a really good review by Serve the Home. They mentioned additional fan headers. After some research I got myself 4 of Noctua NF-A4x20 fans.

Here some pictures before and after the mod:

The only thing you need to take into consideration is the fan orientation, other than that it is a straight forward modification.

Currently I have 24 °C ambient temperature in my office room. The switch has a board temperature of 27 °C, cpu-temperature of 58 °C. The fans are hardly audible. I mean you have to put your ear next to the exhaust or intake fans to hear them a little bit. For interested folks, here are the current RPMs:

  • fan1: 2020 RPM
  • fan2: 2010 RPM
  • fan3: 1830 RPM
  • fan4: 1935 RPM

The RPM change all the time but you get the idea. This will also highly depend on how much traffic you have and how many POE devices you need to power. In my case it is just a unify router and about 7 ports utilized.

I hope this gives you an idea about what this fan mod can do for you.
